More Social Housing Development in Northwest Victoria Thanks to New Investment

Every year, we are faced with different challenges. These challenges may lead to struggles that are difficult to find a solution to. For instance, someone who may be struggling with mental health issues due to poverty could possibly end up homeless because of the lack of available resources, whether financially, mentally, or emotionally. Homelessness has been one of the biggest problems that different countries all over the world have been trying to solve for years. People who do not have a permanent place to live would survive their day-to-day by spending the night out on the streets or crashing on the couch of one of their friends.
The term “rough sleeping”, the most common form of homelessness in many affluent countries, including Australia, is defined as individuals sleeping outside due to a lack of a permanent home or space. New initiatives and projects by the Andrews Labor Government over the years, will hopefully ease the homelessness problem across the country.
39 new houses in Ballarat and Horsham are expected to be delivered soon thanks to new investment in social housing. Minister for Housing Richard Wynne visited on the 27th of April the construction site of 14 new homes being built in Ballarat. This construction is under the $5.8 million housing project, to which the government allotted $4.5 million to. The development is projected to provide 44 people with new homes plus 52 local jobs.
The Labor Government’s $5.3 billion Big Housing Build was established to focus on building social and affordable housing in Australia. It is considered to be the single biggest investment in the nation’s history. This program includes a $1.25 billion investment in regional areas, which will ensure that the economic and social benefits of the program will be felt in different communities across the state.
Building social housing in regional areas is important as it is something that different generations will benefit from. We all deserve to live a more secure and stable life, and with new affordable housing projects, people, especially low-income earners will have a chance at having a roof over their heads. Mr. Wynne says that these developments are shreds of evidence of the government’s real investment in solutions to tackle homelessness. Providing Australians a more affordable housing will certainly become a priority in the next few years. In addition, these kinds of housing developments will create a stronger local community, and at the same time, people living in Ballarat will be able to enjoy a more secure and safe environment.
Eradicating homelessness has been one of Australia’s ultimate visions. However, the world went through a crisis due to the pandemic, so plans had to be halted for the time being. Now that things are slowly going back to normal and recovering, developments that are focused on providing people livelihood and long-term accommodations must continue.
