Tips on How to Beautify Your Rental Property
Posted by Tristan Angelini on 04 July 2022
Many times, blogs and articles only share tips that are suited for people who have their own house, while people who only rent homes are often forgotten. Renting is very common nowadays, especially because of the rise in mortgage payments, plus stricter lending requirements. Those who are not yet ready to make a huge commitment or investment would usually opt for renting a place.
It's quite a struggle to find ways how to decorate a rental place because first of all, there are restrictions. Anyone who has had some experience renting a home knows how difficult it is to decorate a place that is technically not yours. When there are limitations, it’s obviously going to have an impact on how you are going to do things inside and outside your home. Renters acknowledge the fact that there’s a limit to what you can do to your rental apartment.
The challenge is to make the place attractive without breaking any rules, which brings us to our number one tip on how to beautify your rental property.
Make Sure to Know the Ground Rules
First of all, you have to know what the ground rules are. Talk to your landlord if it would be fine if you make some changes or you want to take care of the place for them. Communicating with your landlord is key if you want to decorate your home the way you want to because a lot of times they agree to these requests. For example, repainting rooms and cabinets make some of the biggest differences in terms of appearance without having to do a lot of carpentry work.
Consider Adding Carpets
Many times, renters complain about the ugly flooring of these rental homes. This takes a lot of time and money to change and landlords wouldn’t normally allow changes to be done. What you can do to hide these is to invest in carpets or rugs. Aside from these being inexpensive, they add new personality and color to your rental home. Like repainting, it doesn’t require carpentry work but you will need to choose the right carpets and rugs that will fit the style of your home.
Investment Pieces
When you are renting, it’s much better when you invest in items and pieces you can bring with you the next time you move houses or when you are no longer renting. These investment pieces should create harmony with your other furniture if you are thinking of holding a theme for your rental place. Artistic accessories and even paintings will provide a new feel to your rental home without needing to change anything your landlord may need to inspect first.
Choose suitable lighting
Lighting should not just be a top priority for homeowners, but renters as well. Most of the time, this aspect of home decorating is neglected because people don’t think it makes much of a difference. But it does. Lamps provide personality to your home. You should also consider your window dressing because natural light creates such a huge impact. Decorate Using Alternatives Renting a place may limit you to do the things you want to because you have an obligation to keep it as pristine as possible. Hanging decorations would mean you will need the hammer some nails to the walls. But since you cannot afford to do that, tacks, clips, and command hooks are your friend.
