On the Government Efforts About Creating More Jobs in Melbourne
Posted by Tristan Angelini on 04 February 2021
Jobs, jobs, and more jobs – looks like the Andrews Labor Government will continue to create jobs for Australians. Last year, one of the initiatives that were created was the JobKeeper program wherein workers who had been affected by the pandemic will be able to receive support from the government. It was mainly for them to keep working even amid a pandemic. However, although extended, this was not meant to last too long. It’s a good thing that the support for people to get back to work will continue.
Working for Victoria initiative was created last year to help people who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic and due to other reasons. Since then, about 12,000 jobs were created since April 2020. The initiative was designed to help skilled workers find paid work. Minister for Employment Jaala Pulford announced 100 new jobs across three local councils. Included in the job openings are roles in graffiti management, gardening, immunisation services, community outreach, and businesses, plus sporting club support.
In addition, White Horse City Council is said to help elderly residents plus those non-English speakers to learn how to access the digital platforms in order for them to stay in touch with their family and friends, as well as gain access to community services plus all local libraries. The Support Officer will handle traders in retail and industrial precincts to help them activate “outdoor dining and trading” as well as apply for grants and plan for a sustainable recovery.
According to the government’s media release, Victoria’s Eastern Suburbs such as Whitehorse, Maroondah, and Banyule will join 69 other local governments across Victoria. The initiative Working for Victoria aims to support people into jobs in local communities. Minister for Employment Jaala Pulford reiterates the importance of using the website in order to find a suitable role for them as this initiative continues.
The world had experienced such a difficult time when the pandemic broke. Lockdowns changed the game. The creation of these new opportunities will bring about benefits not just to the economy, but to the lives of those who had to lose their jobs through no fault of their own is crucial during these times. Andrews Labor Government’s initiatives for SMEs that started this year will continue on and have been extended to be able to help more Melburnians and Victorians. Check out this blog for more info.
